OUR story
Our Story
Our beloved mum Anna loved to cook. She cooked every day for most of her God Given life.
Any opportunity she was offered to feed family, friends and even strangers, Anna embarked
on the challenge. Put simply, her joy came from feeding people.
It didn’t matter if it was an individual or a large group of people, she always served copious
amounts of food. Whenever people would comment on how delicious her food was, they
often asked about her special ingredients. Anna would explain, it wasn't so much the
ingredients; it was imperative to cook with love.
Anna adored her family and friends; in fact, one could say she lived for them and honoured
them at every given opportunity. Our mother was known for spending endless hours in the
kitchen. However, meal preparation did not stop there. She was known for preparing fruit
and vegetable platters in her fruit shop. Anna would also help family and friends in their
homes to prepare food for birthdays, weddings, and other joyous celebrations. Even her very
own backyard, was a sanctuary for meal preparation and delivering banquets of food. This
provided people around her endless moments of laughter and memories that would last a
lifetime.
Her joy came from seeing our faces light up; when we walked through her front door and ran
into the kitchen to see what she had prepared for us all! The mouth-watering aromas would
waft down the street; and you knew you were in for a delicious surprise, an emotionally
satisfying experience.
Mrs Sirilas loved preparing her traditional Cretan dishes, which originated from her
hometown, Chania which is in the island of Crete. Anna also loved Australian cuisine and
was inspired by cooking styles from all over the world. She adored Nigella Lawson, Rick
Stein and Maggie Beer (to name a few) and would spend hours recording then re-watching
her beloved cooking shows. SBS Food channel was where she spent a lot of time admiring
cooks and chefs. She would then make notes, and when she had free time; would recreate
culinary masterpieces that we enjoyed devouring!
Not only do we remember these beautiful memories of Anna in the kitchen, but also all the
incredible aprons she created. She loved to sew and made hundreds of aprons for herself
and as gifts for others.
These aprons we have designed and lovingly produced are in memory of our incredible
mum Anna Sirilas. May her memory live on forever. We love you mum.
